When I started my teaching career my goals were to be a good teacher and a great coach. So far, I believe I am advancing well toward those goals. As a striving perfectionist, I am always looking to do things better and more effectively all the time, which is why I don't think I will ever reach those goals completely. My short term goals are to finish this Master's Degree, continue to improve my teaching and coaching, and become a head football, basketball, or baseball coach at the high school level in the next 3 years. Eventually, my ultimate goal is to coach on the college level. I may look into getting a Ph.D. sometime in the future but I think that is going to be a few years off. My professional goals in the classroom have definitely changed since entering the iMET program. When I was first accepted into the program, it was mainly due to the nagging of my good friend, Joe Volek. We were both enjoying technology but Joe was much more "gung-ho" than I to get back into school. I had only been done with my credential for about 1 year so I wasn't really looking to go back to school right away. Joe wouldn't listen to any of that. He wanted us to get our Master's together so we could be on our merry way to professional stardom. After many times talking, we went to SCOE together and were admitted into the program by these two very talkative gentlemen. We were lucky enough to "fall in" to something that has caused me to expand myself personally and professionally in dramatic ways. I first thought that using a computer was a cool way to put my agenda up on the board every day to try to elicit some interest from my kids. Now, I am obsessed with finding new ways to infuse technology into the physical education curriculum. Many students lack interest in P.E., but by using computers to introduce lessons and allow students to read and see pictures of what we are talking about, I can help to increase lesson interest and understanding. I have become fairly proficient in web page design and I have learned to use the web to make pertinent information more available to the public who may have an interest in what I am talking about. I see the ability to use technology as a plus as I strive toward my goal of college coaching. If I can get information and highlights onto the Internet in an attractive manner it will only help the publicity and fan base of my team. Also, the ability to use video and video editing equipment will only increase my value in the coaching field as technology begins to find its way into every facet of life. I will never change my overall goal of coaching at the college level because it is my passion and what I love; however, I have grown immensely in my use with a computer and feel that I have expanded myself tremendously as an educator. I will be the department chair of Physical Education some day at my high school and we will have all sorts of lessons up on the Internet for students and parents to see thanks to me. I have been inspired professionally to become more of a leader for my faculty and a coach for my peers as well as my students...Thank You iMET !!! |
