Overview Of All Tasks

You will follow the links provided to discover when dragons started to be represented in some ancient cultures.

You will do an Internet search for other ancient cultures and their dragons.

After collecting your information on the 5 primary ancient cultures and their dragons, plus 1 other ancient culture that you found, you will make a timeline.

You will read, compare and contrast the differences and similarities of  dragons in ancient civilizations.

Choose a specific civilization and its dragons to discuss in a debate format.

Finally you will choose a final project that represents your newly acquired knowledge about dragons and their place in ancient civilizations.

Process

As a whole-class activity, students will brainstorm the following four questions:

What do we know?
What do we need to know?
How is this relevant to ancient History?
Where can we find out what we need to know?

Record all answers on the board or an overhead. High-quality presentations are the result of research and teamwork. You will be using the Internet as well as printed resources from the class and library.

Task Processes:

Tasks 1 and 2. Each student will complete these tasks individually.

Task 3. Students will team up with another student, research a specific dragon and culture. Student duties are as follows: 

One student will be recorder and the other student will be the researcher. 
Students will need to refine their debate roles using the debate links.

Task 4. Students will be grouped according to the dragon/culture they researched and debated in task 3. Students will decide upon the roles for the members of your group dependent on chosen activity.

Make a Multimedia Presentation 
Write a Story
Write and produce a Play
Write and produce a Puppet Show
Make a Claymation

Student duties are as follows:

Roles - Although each student may choose a team role, all students will need to participate in the project equally. Help those that need it and ask for help when you need it. 

Multimedia Presentation - Recorder, researcher, and 2 or more students designing the presentation. 

Story - Author, researcher, illustrator, typist.

Play/Puppet Show- Playwright, Costume designer, stage designer, director.

Claymation - Cameraman director, playwright, character designer, background designer,
