This webquest addresses the following California Content Standards:

World History and Geography: Medieval and Early Modern Times,  grade 7
Students in grade seven study the social, cultural, and technological changes that occurred in Europe, Africa, and Asia in the years AD 500-1789.

7.3 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.

2.Describe agricultural, technological, and commercial developments during the Tang and Sung periods.

5.Trace the historic influence of such discoveries as tea, the manufacture of paper, woodblock printing, the compass, and gunpowder.

Language Arts

1.Analyze text which uses cause and effect patterns (Reading 2.3)

2.Support all statements and claims with anecdotes, descriptions, facts and statistics, and/or specific examples (Writing 1.2)

3.Identify topics; ask and evaluate questions; and develop ideas leading to inquiry, investigation, and research (Writing 1.4)
