Traveling at the Speed of Kite
![]()
Lets get started
In this experiment you will be recording information during your flight. You will be comparing your data against the data collected from the other groups. Step 1: Make a chart that you can record your data on. See example. You could also print this document out and fill in the information

We will be measuring the amount of line let out verses time. We will see how long you can keep your kite flying as you let out more and more string.
Step 2:
Figure out the amount of line that is needed to initially get your kite into the air. You may need to do a test flight or two to figure this out.

The following roles need to be assigned in your group:
Kite flyer - you will be flying the kite.
String measurer you will measure the amount of string let out each minute.
Time keeper you will keep track of time so that every minute the kite flyer will let out more string.
Data recorder you will record the amount of string let out each minute and enter it on your groups chart.
Remember that when you are letting the string out you should allow the line to leave the spool at a rate so the kite maintains flight. Try to keep your kite flying for ten minutes.
Step 3:
Create a graph that shows your data. You will plot your points.

Step 4:
Share the results of your experiment to the class.
