TEACHER NOTES
Lesson Title: Watching the Colors Come Alive |
GOALS
This webquest meets some of the 6th grade standards for Social Science, English and Mathematics. These standards are listed on the standards page.
The webquest was designed with cooperative grouping in mind and seems to work best during the Spring and Fall months when skies can be clear and windy. Inviting local kite makers/experts to come and talk or work with your students adds
another dimension to the project and is highly recommended.
PLANNING
Materials needed to successfully complete this project include:
PRE SKILLS
The following skills are needed in order to complete the Webquest: Students can be placed by the teacher or allowed to select their own cooperative groups Click here for Activity worksheets. Ancient History Activity
Be sure students read through all the web pages so that they understand what is required. Have them initially review the PowerPoint tutorial before they begin their active research. Each group is to be assigned a different area of focus of Chinese history. Those areas include: Kite Activity
Before students design their kites, make sure the groups have researched kite designs. Students should be aware of the construction of kites and what is needed in order for them to fly. Each part of the kite serves a purpose for keeping it in the air. For example, a kite will not fly without a tail. Encourage students to think of inventive ways to design their kites. Some styles of kites are flat, box, delta or parafoil. Suggest that they may start by thinking of ways they can illustrate their designs on graph paper. Remind students to keep their designs simple and balanced. Beginning kite designers may find it frustrating to build a design that is more complicated.
Basic computer skills including keyboard, mouse, desktop navigation, file saving.
Internet skills including navigation, searching, downloading images and text.
