Assignment Description


The digital divide refers the split between those who have access to computer technology and those who do not. For this week's Tapped In activity we will explore statistics on the digital divide from different points in time. To complete this week's task complete the following schedule tasks.

The Schedule

5:00 - 7:00
    Prep Activity

  1. Find your group and role from the table below

  2. Read your group's reading and read the amount described below:

  3. Reflect on what your answers might be to the following questions:

    • What sub-groups of people were connecting (advantaged) and not connecting (disadvantaged) during your time period?

    • What changing during your time period and how was it changing?

    • What suggestions, if any, were made as to future directions?

    • What were/are the implications for schools based upon the information contained in your report?

    • Based upon the statistics provided, what types of challenges to technology use can we/could we expect for emerging for teachers during your time period.


7:00 - 7:15 Gather and Greet in John's Office (JohnCo)
7:15 - 7:30 Check In
7:30 - 8:45 Skype Group Discussions and Group Report

Notes:

- Facilitators host the Skype conference.

- Include a break in this time as needed.


To complete this evening's Tapped In, complete the following steps in your Skype conference call:
  1. Discuss your group's answers to the reflection questions above.

  2. Using a method chosen by your group's recorder (TI whiteboard, Google Docs, Email or other), as a group prepare a report that contains the following information:
  • The title of your reading.

  • The publication date of your reading.

  • Your group's answers to the reflection questions.

  • 3-5 of the most interesting statistics from your report.



8:45 - 9:00 Recorders prepare final report.
