Flex Assignment

Due: Midnight, Saturday 03/14/09

Pondering and Sharing Research Possibilities

    Preparation

There is no reading assignment for this Flex assignment.

    Introduction -

For this Flex assignment, I would like you to think from a practitioner research perspective about your work and identify a problem you think might make good material for action research. There are no right or wrong answers here. It is important that you just relax, read the assignment carefully, choose a topic, and then complete the assignment.

    Important Note:

You will not implement this research - this is just an exercise to help you start thinking in terms of looking at issues through a practitioner research lens. While I hope this activity, and other activities in this course, will help you begin to think about what you might like to do for your iMET final research project, there is absolutely NO requirement, belief or implication that the specific products you create for this course are necessarily related to what you will do for your final iMET project.

    Assignment

    To complete this week's task:

    1. Identify some process in your work environment that you feel is a problem and/or that could become more efficient or effective. This could be a lesson that you teach, a management system, a communication system - anything you think could be improved upon.

    2. Once you have identified your activity/topic, write an email to the
    imet12-l@csus.edu that includes the following:

    A. What problem did you choose?

    B. An Area of Focus Statement

    • Complete this sentence succinctly:

      • The purpose of this study is to ________

    C. Research Question(s)

One of the most difficult things to do is to define a solid, over-arching research question. Most researchers initially can make statements about their proposed research easier than they can produce a research question.

Write 1 major question that will be answered by your research.

(Hint: It should sound a lot like your statement of purpose)

    D. An Annotated Bibliography

An annotated bibliography is a list of literature resources that includes both the citation information (where the document came from) and a short description of what content is contained in the document. Use your library search skills and find 2 articles that are related to your topic and put the annotated citations here.

    E. In what way might technology be part of the solution to your problem?
