Tapped In: Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants

Preparation

Read the assigned article(s) prior to the Tapped In session and be prepared to discuss in your small group.

Assignment

We will begin our second Tapped In session by all gathering in JoyceED's (case sensitive) office. After some bantering, we will check in and you will then join your group recorder's office. The time keeper will ensure that every one in the group has time to share and the recorder will take notes and prepare a brief summary of your discussion. Faculty members will join your meetings briefly. Please continue as normal unless you have questions or need assistance.

Collaborate with your group to summarize and critique the articles assigned below.
Recorder: summarize discussion points, share summary with the class and post to the whiteboard in JoyceEd's office and into the chat window in JoyceEd's office during the Class discussion.

9:00 - 9:30 Class discussion - Gather in JoyceED and share group summaries

Discussion Objectives

Each group should consider the following guiding questions during the discussion time.
  1. Compare and contrast the author's view of technology integration with your own view.
  2. What solutions would you suggest for schools (or workplaces) to increase technology integration?
  3. Do you agree or disagree with the author's point of view?
  4. If you had access to sufficient resources, how would you reconfigure your classroom, school, or workplace to better connect with digital learners? Prioritize your choices.

Collaborate with your group to summarize and critique the articles assigned.
Recorder: summarize discussion points, and post to listserve.

 

Groups and Roles:

  • Facilitator: keeps the group on the topic, and helps to ensure that all member have a chance to be a part of the discussion.
  • Timekeeper: must keep the group on time and aids the facilitator in ensuring that all members have a chance to take part in the discussion.
  • Recorder: hosts the meeting in their Tapped In office, takes notes during the discussion and prepares the summary.
  • Checker: makes sure that all group members understand the concepts and the group's conclusions.
  • Goojf: get out of jail free: must participate but has no assigned task.
