Discussion Objectives
Each group should attempt to cover all 3 tasks during the discussion time.
1. Download, review, and briefly discuss each group member's graphic organizer.
Note:
These should already have been uploaded to the facilitator's office ahead of time and are accessible from the facilitator's welcome screen. If you have trouble with this process, simply share them via email attachment.
2. Briefly share your thoughts regarding Ausubel's learning theory, how would you apply it in your locus of control?
3. Ivie presents several components of Ausubel's learning theory. These include, but are not limited to, cognitive structure, hierarchy, subsumption, anchorage, and advanced organizers.
As a group, attempt to answer the following questions:
a) How do advance organizers support one or more components of Ausubel's theory?
b) How do the organizers you created and your plans for their use support Ausubel's theory?
c) How can graphic organizers be used in the delivery of an Advanced Organizer?
d) Discuss the various types of organizers and their use in your locus of control.
e) Suggest several technology tools, in addition to Inspiration, that can be used by students to create their own organizers.
