282 Strategies for Application and Presentation

Begin With the End in Mind:

This assignment is to start you thinking about design choices and instructional choices you will be making with your project. At this stage of the process you are gathering information, exploring options, and allowing thoughts and ideas to simmer, form and develop. You should not be making any decisions about your project yet.

  1. For this forum posting you will first be reading several short articles about web design and instructional design. As you read these think about how the principles of color, typography, layout and navigation will help you design for your intended audience.
  • Color~ This should look familiar to all of you! This AO gives an excellent overview of how color can convey meaning in design.
  • Typography~ This brief article will give you a basic understanding of how to use text on the web.
  • Layout/Navigation~You only need to read pages 2 and 3. Of course you can always read more.
  • General Guidelines~ From Robin Williams
  1. Next read these two articles.
    • The first is on what to consider when defining your objectives: Defining Goals
    • The second article is on using UDL (Universal Design for Learning) to reach all learners: UDL

  2. Post to the forum as an individual:
    • Who do you think your target audience will be?
    • What might be good color and typography choices for your target audience?
    • What might be some good goals for your 282 web-based resource?
    • How might you incorporate UDL ?
  3. Reply to 2 other posts. Reply to peers who are not in your group. Please give specific feedback on the goals and choices of your peer. If possible try to offer a perspective that your peer might not have considered.
