Process

The class will be divided into teams of 4 persons each for the remainder of this project. Each team will select an endangered species and will investigate the causes, habitat, and general information about endangered species. The roles and responsibilities of each team member are as follows:

The Researcher (2 people)

This is a two person job. In this job, you will do research on the endangered species your group chooses for the project. You will do research on the following:

* Pictures of habitat and the animal
* Description of type of area where your animal lives? (That’s its habitat.) Where is it found in the world?
* What things does it need to survive? (What does it eat? How does it fit into the food web?)

The Journalist

This person is in charge of organizing the article for the newspaper. They are the taskmaster for the group. This person will help with the research, organize the group and make sure that the work is getting done on time. Filling in the daily journal for the group. You and the expert will write the part of the article about the difference between threatened and endangered species and what causes species to become endangered. Moreover, you need to research with the expert what organizations are helping the species? How are they helping? What can be done to help the species survive? Also, organize group thoughts on the following questions?: Should we save this species? How can we do this? Is this possible to do in today's world?You are also to help the expert write about your group's conclusion on the solution to saving this endangeredspecies.

The Expert

You are to become an expert on endangered species. You need to do the research about the difference between threatened and endangered species. Also, you need to research what causes species to become endangered. There is more than one reason.Be able to describe the reasons and have 3 sources to cite in the article. In addition, you need to research with the journalist what organizations are helping the species? How are they helping? What can be done to help the species survive? Also, organize group thoughts on the following questions?: Should we save this specie? How can we do this? Is this possible to do in today's world?You are also to help the jouralist write about your group's conclusion on the solution to saving this endangered species.


When you meet with your research teams, begin by assessing your general knowledge of the endangered species. Then, choose one of the United States' endangered species for your team to research. For more suggestions on where to look for information, go to the Resources page. Each member of your group should concentrate on what role you have taken. The next step is for your group to pull together and discuss what you have learned.

Your group will need to have a daily journal that is kept by the journalist. In this journal, you will write down what you did that day. Everyone must have something recorded for their each day. All work will be kept with the journal in the classroom for teacher review at the end of each day.
Besides the article that is due, extra credit is available. Make a poster about your endangered specie on the computer. On this poster, include pictur
es, habitat information, what is causing the animal to become endangered, and what is an endangered specie.
