Objective

 


Objective:
Through online research students will develop a theory of historical cycles or patterns in clothing over the past 120 years and will then design a predicted clothing trend of the future based on their research.


Project Procedure:
A Step by step approach to Hats Off to History.

Once cooperative groups are organized:

1) Visit the Gallery, Database, Graphic Organizer and Rubric pages to become familiar with their content.
2) Complete the Database assignment according to your teacher's instructions
AND/OR-
3) Complete the Graphic Organizers according to your teacher's instructions.
4) Complete the Final Summary page.
5) FINAL PROJECT: Predict and design clothing for the 2020's. Base your predictions on the research you have done for this project.
6) Present your final project.
7) Work either individually or in a cooperative group on one of the Optional Assignments.

The individuals and web sites listed below may be able to provide you with information regarding influences on the clothing industry. Please be aware that sites and e-mail addresses may not be active at the time you try. Before you contact anyone on this list or at any other source, prepare your question(s) ahead of time and be concise and polite when requesting information.

1) Archives of The Fashion Group. A membership organization for professionals in the fashion industry founded in 1930, they focus primarily on mid 20th century fashion and the women and the industry since then. Contact Person at the Archives is Lenore Benson

2) High School of Fashion Industries in New York. To get in touch, send e-mail message with specific questoins regarding the clothing industry.

3) National Council for History Education The National Council for History Education is a non-profit corporation whose Board of Trustees is dedicated to promoting the importance of history in schools and in society.

4) Future Homemakers of America Home Economics Related Occuapations which oversees all Competitive Recognition Events for FHA-HERO in California.

5)Future Community and Careers Leaders of America A national organization for all competition events for the California Association of FHA, i.e., fashion design.

6) Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising A co-educational, specialized, private college located in San Francisco. The college gives much to FHA in the way of post-secondary partnerships to high schools and scholarships.


Project Assessment

Two separate rubrics will be used to assess the work done in Hats Off to History. The first rubric will assess how well the cooperative group functioned, the second will assess the groups final product.
