California Missions

The California missions show us a very important part of California history. This web page will be your starting point for three assignments to help you learn more about the missions.

Assignment #1: Annie's Mission

Annie's Mission was originally designed and distributed as freeware for the Apple II by Computer-Using Educators, Inc. (C.U.E.). When you click on the link above, you will go to the SCORE web site which currently hosts Annie's Mission.

You and your partner will work together to solve the mystery: what happened to Annie's father? Click on the blue link above to start your mission!

Assignment #2: Now you should know a little bit more about missions. Next take a tour of a mission and take the Information Scavenger Hunt at the same time!

When you click on tour, you will go to The Spanish Missions of California web site. It was a 1996 ThinkQuest entry, made by three Southern California high school students. When you click on Information Scavenger Hunt, you will go to a scavenger hunt written by Barbara Garrison. The page is hosted by Sweetwater Union High School District in San Diego, California. The hunt is part of a larger web site: http://www.suhsd.k12.ca.us/mvm/netlinks/1missions4/1missions4.html

You may want to print up the questions for the Scavenger Hunt before you start.

Assignment #3: For this task, you and a partner will specialize in one mission. You are reporters for Channel 3. You need to prepare a five minute story to be aired at the 11:00 news hour. You will need to go the the Project Steps page for an outline of what you will be doing.

Note to teachers: Students will need teacher support and guidance for each step of the project seen on the Project Steps page.
