Step One—Find a partner who teaches a similar grade level or subject. Together, look at the teachers' web pages below:

As you look at each web page, answer the following questions:

    1. What common elements do you see on these class web pages?
    2. Which web pages are easiest to read? Note the font used, colors, background, etc.
    3. Do you see any photographs of students used? Are students' names used?
    4. How are links used?

Now you probably have some ideas of what you might like to have on your classroom web page. But before we go much farther, we need to have a quickie course on web design!

    Go to CARP design guide!

Go back to five of the above websites and rate them using the CARP rubric page. As you and your partner work on this, be thinking about what you want to do (and want to avoid doing!) on your own web page.

    Step Two—Design your page!

Sit next to someone who teaches a similar grade level or subject for extra help while you're working. Together, brainstorm what you think are components of a useful classroom web page. Then, begin sketching a picture of your ideas on paper. Consider what colors, graphics, and text you might want to include. Will you want to insert any hyperlinks? If so, make a note of the URLs needed.

Step Three—Build your web page in Word!
