Rate each website on a scale of 1-5 (1 is worst; 5 is best) for the following qualities:
Contrast: This is what draws your eye into the page. Contrast creates a hierarchy of information, and when done well, allows the viewer to quickly skim through the huge amount of information and pick out what is needed.
Alignment: Are items on the page lined up with each other? Remember that items may be aligned to the left, right, or center. Tollett and Williams say that one alignment should be used on the entire page.
Repitition: If the site consists of more than one page, is there a uniformity, or repitition to the whole site? Is there a consistent navigation system so that users can easily figure out how to get around? Is there repitition in font use?
Proximity: Are related items on the page in close proximity to each other? Are headlines close to the text they go with? Are captions close to graphics and/or photos? On the other hand, are unrelated items too close together?
Comments: Mention any particularly good or bad aspects of the site. Be sure to make notes that will help you remember why you scored the site as you did, so that when you start your actual design you will be able to use what you've learned here.
