Heroes to Butterflies: Reflections in teaching with videos

I watched my students learn, through the eyes of my video camera and listened to the children as I learned to edit the video for this reflection. As a master's student in a cohort at (iMET3) CSUS, this year has been an exhilerating and rewarding experience that I am anxious to share with you in this eportfolio.

The meaning of the concept, Heroes, changed dramatically on September 11, 2001 when the World Trade Center was destroyed by terrorists. My class collected pennies for the children of the rescue workers who lost their lives. When we delivered the pennies, we interviewed our local firemen about being brave in the video called "Our Heroes". We developed our Question/Concept board, "Being Brave", with news stories from the Internet about the rescue workers and the passengers of Flight 93, and learned about databases by "sorting" the information on the wall. In "Butterflies" , you will see how we raised Painted Lady butterflies, for an Earth Day project.
