HOLOCAUST FEEDBACK

Instructor Feedback:

Mark Rodriguez – “…striking images”; “...the table is a good organizational tool, but each cell content is identical in format so i'm not sure if one or another has equal importance…" “…"Wow! You put in a ton of work culminating in outstanding          resources...Kudos!" “…...CDs! Outstanding!"

Dr. Menchaca:  Like with the Civil Rights assignment, a short text blurb on the goals and objectives of this site would be useful. I.e., how can this site fit into a larger picture or lesson? The image of the two little boys with stars on their shirts is a powerful one. You might want to have that be the main picture not the mouse over. There is really a wealth of information here. Perhaps within the sections, at some future time (after you've completed portfolios) it would be nice to have annotations for the links. Additionally, I did not check all the links for accuracy.

Since there is so much information, after a short blurb, perhaps you can have a small subsection entitled: "Web site creators' top pics!" and then highlight 3 or 4 of the best links you can find with a short blurb on each. These wouldn't have to be organized by category since they are highlighted yet included somewhere else.

Peer Feedback:

Jackie says:  “I remember being very moved by this presentation. Everything was there: images, music, stories, lessons, and research. The presentation is very  professional and the sites chosen carefully. The one modification I would suggest would have to do with order. You guys have so much on there it can be overwhelming and hard to know where to begin.  I thought your PPT was done so well and would be a great beginning. I would somehow direct viewers to the PPT  first, and then on to their choice of links."  "I love that you all always handout CD's. I've referenced them often." "The rollovers were so effective!"

Charlene Stone:  Your site is exceptional. The music, pictures and presentation are engaging. This page can be used as a pre teaching activity and a springboard to many lessons. Thank you for providing the CD. Nagivagtion is well done and the links are incredible. I loved this presentation and your project. Char

Instructor Feedback:

Providing a link to the 'official' word from the CDE is very important--good work! The hit counter is coming up with an error on my browser. The attorney and lawsuit approach is an excellent one. Make sure it is abundantly clear that this is fictitious! There are a lot of questions in the Process section. What type of scaffold might assist students in determining which and how many they should approach? Excellent links. Some of the annotations are quite short. Once you've complete your portfolios, you might go and provide a bit more description for each link, especially before you get to your table. Great rubric and overall approach!

ROSA PARKS FEEDBACK

I really liked this project. You've organized a wealth of information that might otherwise be difficult to find, including videos. The mural picture link on the first page is a broken link (that is, if you click the picture).

The assignments and ties to standards are clear. The material your group developed is superior and timely. You point out consistently the importance of rubrics, scaffolding, and tying to research.

It would be nice on the very first page if you provided a very short blurb explaining (to those that wouldn't otherwise know) exactly what you did and what your goals and objectives were. E.g., this site provides a review of several online lesson plans on Rosa Parks. In addition, the site provides its own lesson focusing on X, Y, and Z. Does that make sense?

MULTI-CULTURAL PROJECT: My overall comment about this project is really about this ;core group. I found throughout iMET that you always offered a product that was rich in detail - conceptually, in terms of resources distributed and as a presentation. Not only did you consistently keep the bar high for the cohort, you pushed yourselves on each product. I always looked forward to learning from your presentations, and always did. Thank you all for your hard work, and for contributing to our learning. As to this specific project, given that the above kudos apply (great wealth of information, handouts, &extras; (sounds, images, etc.), rubrics, models, etc.) additional comments are:
I especially liked the scaffolding showing clear examples of packages that fit the group criteria and those that didn't, and the whys of each; this was very effective
I also appreciated the abundance of packages represented and the recognition that most are not totally effective, but could be adapted, incorporated or used as a resource.  I would eliminate some of the white space so that the pages fit tighter on the screen.
As with the Holocaust project, I personally would prefer if the underlined links were changed to rollover links. There is so much great information here, my eyes get caught up in the lines and I think it would be smoother if the lines weren't there. That's a personal preference!

I liked the way you provided evidence that existing lessons about Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights movement did not meet your definition of an effective curriculum package. This states the problem and purpose for your project.

Teacher and student resources for Rosa Parks and Civil Rights Leaders are consistent and indexed on the title page. The project was easy to navigate with subtle music in the background.

The directions for your lessons are clear with links to all the resources necessary. The most powerful piece is your Swish movie that captures the history and emotions of the Civil Rights Movement. Excellent work!

MODERN PUBLISHING FEEDBACK

Instructor Feedback

Web and DTP Tutorials. Another nicely designed site. I like that you really highlight the staff developers section with the coin. Someday I'm going to organize all this stuff with a staff developers section! Great vision statement. Question for you: do you think it would be appropriate to webify the PPT staff devel presentation or do you think enough people have the ability to view PPT within their browser upon download? HTM vs. PPT -- that is the question? I'm not answering, just wondering myself. Wonderful tutorials. This is really a useful endeavor!

Peer Feedback

Maybe I am a sucker for Shakespeare I don't know but I love this site because it used him in a positive manner.  So often students find Shakespeare boring.  How fun is this to build a newspaper about him?  The web page is crisp there is no unnecessary marks or graphics or pages added.  Again classic of these group members to get right to the point.  The only suggestion I had was to make the link pages not .docs but actual webpages to click from.

Classic Text Modern publishing has professional appeal
and rich content. The website is simple and easy to
understand and navigate. The content is powerful and
will help teachers and students with these powerful
tools. The display of information is well done. The

Your Web page is great.  It Looks really professional.
Also your PowerPoints were clear and concise.  We were able to stay with you every step of the way.
The ice breaker was really good because it connected with your project.  Ice breakers that lack this connection make little sense as to why you should do them.  Well Done.  We like your project a lot but you stole Cindy…not fair.

Feedback from Stan, Charlene, Hank, and Russ

For group 1  Congratulations, you’ve taken us to a hierarchial level of proximal development.  In addition, we like your utilization of templates, which makes things simple, succinct, and easy to use.  According to the rubric you’re 4’s all the way down. Furthermore, your design implementation demonstrates clear and concise navigation.  Lastly your presentation pace was excellent, particularly the opening activity, which attempted to assess and access prior knowledge.  Because of this activity, the presenters could easily group participants together, which provided peer scaffolding.

Great work!

PORTFOLIO FEEDBACK

Nice layout and design. Pleasing color scheme and graphics that load quickly. Mary-ann's name is hyphenated. Bruce is Mr. Bruce McVicker (though working on that doctor part!). I like your beginning write-up. Remember to add your own name to the partnership statements.

The process section seems to be linking to a powerpoint presentation and not the correct section from the table on the first page.

Wow, powerful statement under the reflection and growth area. Nicely said.

Excellent process section. For your online resume, it might be nice to link to your affiliations. I.e., have "Xerox Corporation" also be a link to their web page, for example.

I like the way you organized product section with extensive annotations and links to feedback and reflection. Keeps that section very 'clean.'

I like the photo gallery section. The photos seemed to be all over the place on my machine. Try using tables to organize them. Sometimes that works better for layout of photos.

The words on your action research showcase button are truncated. Maybe just say action research or just showcase.

Excellent work so far. I'm impressed!

Cindy,
Your portfolio is awesome.
The staff development project is awesome. Your publisher powerpoint was fantastic. I have shared it with other teachers.
Thanks,
Kathy

Cindy - congrats on getting so far! Your site looks wonderful - keep it up! Here are my specific comments by section.
HOME PAGE:
Overall I really appreciate the look of your site and the Home Page. This site has a consistent look throughout which makes it comfortable to move around in.
The background is attractive and adds depth but is not distracting; navigation is clear and again consistent.
One suggestion is that you might add a screen tip to the links so that the user knows ahead of time what lies behind the link.
For example, on your photo gallery page you might note that they are personal images rather than professional artifacts. I wasn't able to clearly view the two documents so didn't understand their importance.
Also, I expected the Favorite Links& to be links to additional sites that you value; it appears that it is a link to the Showcase page. This was confusing to me. I would remove the underline from your Home/Abstract title; it looks like it is a link.

PROCESS
This page is really nice; as with the Home Page it is attractive, clear and consistent. I enjoyed your concise narrative and found that it clearly articulated your growth in a professional, yet personal fashion.

PRODUCT
I had time to look at the first two products, I'll try and check out the other two later. HOLOCAUST: I gave feedback to Terry on this in TI; I'm sure he will share it if he hasn't already.
