Winning the Lottery...Could you be next???
A Probability Webquest
Evaluation
Your project will be graded using the following components:
1. PowerPoint Presentation which includes:
- A short description of how to play the game and all the ways you can win.
- How you calculated the odds of at least 3 ways of winning
For example:For SuperLotto I would show how to calculate the outcomes of choosing
5# and the mega#, 5# and no mega#, 4# and mega
Use permutation & combination notation where appropriate. You may use P(n,r)
or n_P_r
- The probabilities of each outcome.
-Your recommendation to play or not play and why.
EXTENSION: Calculate the probability of other unrelated events to put the probability
of winning the lottery into perspective.
2. Class Presentation
3. Math Journal...Typed or neatly
written project notes which include:
- Calculations of all of the possible outcomes for 2 of the lottery games.
- Response to reflection questions.
Each student will turn in their own project notes. See math journal rubric below
for grading criterion.

| Use of time in computer lab | Frequently off task. Wasting time. | Wastes some time, but usually returns to task. | Almost always on task, very little time wasted. | Always on task, no wasting of time. |
