Introduction

Welcome to my portfolio. I am an adult education English as second language teacher. This website presents the work that I did durning my journey through the IMET (Internet-based Master's in Educational Technology) program as California State University, Sacramento. To see my portfolio, click on the Abstract, Process, Product, or Showcase links. For an overview of the portfolio elements, go to the Abstract. Before you explore my portfolio, let me introduce the people in my navigation heading because they give you a glimpse of who I am and what I am privileged to do as an English teacher..

Starting on the left, Karina is from Moldova and came to the U.S. in December 2005. She is 19 and plans to begin college studies after she improves her English and establishes her residency. She's married and came with her husband Artiom and her father-in-law and mother-in-law. I teach a class of students who are mostly from the former Soviet Union for the Folsom Cordova Unified School District's Adult School. I maintain a website for my American students at ESL Capital.US .

Kyu Nho Burrow is in my morning Korean Community Center class. The class has a Spanish, Tagalog, and a Farsi speaker, but the others are Korean Americans who are senior citizens. They lived in Korea during some of its hardest times, the Japanese occupation and the Korean war. Since their grade school years were during the occupation, they did their studies in Japanese so they are learning their third language. I have more pictures of the class in my gallery.

The center picture shows me with Tony Liang and Jenny Tha Wu. Tony and Jenny are English teachers at Enping Experimental Middle School in Enping, Guangdong, China. I went to Enping in August 2005 to help primary and middle school English teachers improve their oral English skills and share with them about American culture and am planning to return in July 2005. Enping is a city/county in southeast China situated in a rural area, which is trying to become a center of worldwide microphone manufacturing. For pictures of my China trip, take a look at my gallery page at ESL Capital. I have a website for Enping English, EnpingEnglish.org . My gallery and blog on EnpingEnglish are oriented toward the teachers and students in Enping.

The fourth picture is of the Konstantinovs. Ivan Konstantinov, Anna Konstantinov, and Olesya Konstantinova were in my Folsom Cordova class in 2004-2005. Ivan was a pastor in the Ukraine, but also worked full-time in a trade. The family moved to West Sacramento in August. Anna and Olesya are continuing their studies at Fremont Adult School. Their daughter Olesya was an insurance company office manager in the Ukraine. She married a Ukrainian born computer programmer in November. I have some pictures of their wedding reception in the gallery. .

The picture on the far right is of the ESL computer lab at Folsom Cordova Adult School. That's the lab that I used for my action research. There are about 30 PC's with Windows XP. I use the lab daily with my students. They use programs like Rosetta Stone and Sound Blender, as well as a PowerPoint developed by Stan Burmich and Hot Potatoes exercises I have made for my class.
