Process - Step 2
As proud new graduates
of Detective School, your team is now eligible to take the Detective
License Exam. This is a group test. Your team will be given a series
of web site mysteries to investigate and solve.
Here is your test. Choose
one team member to be the scribe. This person will enter your answers
in the team's electronic detective notebook. Choose a second team
member to be the web driver. This person runs the browser and keeps
track of the web sites visited. The third team member will be facilitator.
The facilitator's job is to keep the discussion on-topic and on-track.
Be sure to enter team member names and roles in your notebook. When
you have completed your test, notify your teacher before continuing
to your first case.
For each of the web
sites listed below, determine if it is a hoax or if it is real.
Use the tools and techniques you learned in Detective School to
discuss and answer the following questions for each web site:
Who is the owner of
the domain name?
Do the address, owner,
and top level domain provide any clues as to the authenticity of
the web site? If yes, explain.
Has the appearance of
the web site changed drastically over time? If yes, explain how.
Is this web site a hoax
or real? Give at least 3 reasons for your answer. Enter any references
you use to other information or to other web sites into your electronic
detective notebook.
Remember to use the
web site resources from your Investigating
the Web 102 course.
