This webquest is designed for a 4th grade Science class studying a unit on Plants.
This webquest is designed to meet the California State Standards. The project is specifically designed to reach standards 3, effects of environment on living organisms, and 6, experiments and the scientific method. Default Font. This project also satifies several National Standards.
In Bernie Dodge's Taxonomy of Webquest Tasks, I have combined Scientific and Mystery tasks to design this quest.

This lesson takes approximately 4 weeks. I gave students 45 minutes of time during the first week and then I taught other facts about plants as the seeds grew and then after 4 weeks I gave them all of class time to draw conclusions and work on their powerpoints.
I brought in seeds from 6 different packets placed in baggies.  Some seed choices are radish, carrot, sunflower seed, peas, cucumber, marigold, bean, and any other flower/vegetable seeds.

The types of conditions that I gave each team's seed planter from the planet Plantasy are:
1. Rocky soil-lots of small rocks with very small amounts of soil. Rocky planet.

2. Regular soil but little rainfall-they can only water soil once. Dry planet.

3. Regular soil but grown with a redlight source. Red daylight on planet.

4. Regular soil but grown in darkness. Dark side of planet.

5. Regular soil but very cold temperatures, put in refridgerator.  Cold planet.

6. Sandy soil-all sand no soil.  Sandy planet.
There are other conditions you may want to try instead of these.
