Storyboard Your Idea

Congratulations. You have completed steps 1 and 2.
After completing research on racism and understanding the power of public service announcements, it is the group’s job to make the video. Begin planning the video using a storyboard.

Since you have never created a video project before, this process is very new.  You may find that you will need to go back to steps 1 and 2 to get some additional information as you go along. That is part of the process, the steps are there to help you.

Investigate and answer the following questions:

What is a Storyboard?

Check out these two sites to understand what a storyboard is:

Why is a storyboard important as a planning tool in pre-production?  Click on both references to understand why planning a storyboard is critical to a successful video production:

Group Activity:
Have each member of your collaborative group discuss what they learned from their webquest research.  In round robin fashion, have each member describe what a storyboard is and why it is important.

Task:
After discussion, complete questions 1-3 on the worksheet:

Group Activity:
Print page 12 from the following website:
PROGRESS REPORT FOLLOWING AN INVESTIGATION (PDF)

Work together as a group and fill out each section of the progress report.  Evaluate the investigation process.

Group Discussion:
Do you have enough information to create your PSA video?  Have you informed the audience on the problem?   How have you addressed the issue of racism?  Have you offered any solutions?

Tip: Look back at the "Task" page to see if you have met the criteria.

Task:
After discussion, complete questions 4 and 5 :

Creating and Evaluating the Draft

Once you finish investigating the storyboard process, work with your group to create a draft storyboard on page.  You can create your own or download copies from the following two sites:

Creating Effective Classroom Videos - Preproduction
Actig With a Pencil - Storyboard Your Movie

Storyboard worksheet (PDF)

Group Activity:
Prior to creating the artistic poster version, have at least two other groups critique your draft using this rubric.

Print two copies of the rubric, mark your choices and hand back to the appropriate group. Make comments directly on their storyboard where appropriate.

Task:
Using the comments and rubrics you received, create the final version of your storyboard using poster board, index cards, and color.

Tip: Remember to review actual storyboads from the sites you visited.
