Tapped In: Effective Groups

Preparation
There is no reading assignment for this Tapped In session. For preparation, please review the assignment and be prepared to share regrading the three topics listed below.
Assignment
We will begin our first Tapped In session by all gathering in DianaMG (case sensitive) office. After some bantering, we will check in and you will then join your group faciliator's office. The time keeper will ensure that every one in the group has time to share and the recorder will take notes and prepare a breif summary of your discussion. Faculty members will join your meetings briefly, do not stop discussion, please continue as normal unless you have questions or need assistance. See group member roles below. The schedule is as follows:
7:00 Sign in > Gather in DianaMG > Greet and Banter
7:10 Check in
7:20 Join your facilitator's office and begin discussion
7:50 Break
8:00 Continue discussion
8:30 Break - recorder finalizes summary
8:45 Gather in my office DianaMG and share group summaries
9:15 Check out
Discussion Objectives
Each group should attempt to cover all 3 topics during the discussion time.
Topic 1
Consider your experiences with past group projects and situations. While taking turns, tell your peers about a positive group experience you have had in the past. This can be any type or size of group including academic, professional, or social. Suggest what the key factors were in making it a positive experience.
Topic 2
Consider your experiences with past group projects and situations. While taking turns, tell your peers about a negative or challenging group experience you have had in the past. This can be any type or size of group including academic, professional, or social. Suggest what may have or should have been done to make the experience more productive and enjoyable.
Topic 3
Consider your experiences with past group projects and situations (positive and negative). As a group, make a list of at least 5 items that would help ensure a successful group process when moving from face to face to an online environment.
Groups and Roles:
- Facilitators host the meeting, keep the group on the topic, and help ensure that all member have a chance to be a part of the discussion.
- Timekeepers must keep the group on time and aid the facilitator in ensuring that all member have a chance to be a part of the discussion.
- Recorders take notes during the discussion and prepare the summary.
